Urology Lasers

Monocrom develops reliable and  highly effective diode medical laser technology for the Healthcare and Life-science industry. We perform a constant, advanced research in new applications in the field of Medicine, that allows us to open the door to new possibilities for laser-assisted treatments and therapies.

Laser surgery is the best support for the urologist in the recent years thanks to the continuous advances in Surgical Lasers combined with fiber optics and miniaturized endoscopic instruments. Today the development of Endourology depends on laser technology able to perform with high precision and efficacy, be minimally invasive for the patient and go where a hand or scalpel could never reach.

Monocrom FLEX M-2000 Series of Diode Lasers at 2 um is a perfect match for applications in the field of Urology, for treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) (by vaporization, vaporesection, enucleation and vapoenucleation of prostate), Laser Lithotripsy and Soft Tissue Surgery. Instead of using complex laser systems based on flashlight or diode pumped solid state lasers such as Holmium:YAG or a Thulium fiber laser, our product emits light at 2 um directly from a diode laser making it simple, efficient and cost-effective.

Moreover, the semiconductor material can be designed to emit in the range of wavelengths from 1900 nm to 2600 nm without changing the electro-optical efficiency allowing to adapt the emission wavelength to the absorption coefficient of the soft tissue. The emission mode can be selected to be continuous wave (CW) or Pulsed providing a broad range of operational parameters.

Monocrom is an OEM manufacturer. but also offering standard products in short lead time. We adapt to customers needs with a high degree of flexibility and versatility for their developments.

Surgical Lasers in Urology

The most known lasers  used in Urology are the Holmium and Thulium lasers. These lasers offer advanced performance, with a lower intraoperative bleeding risk and shorter hospital stays of patients. However, Diode Lasers can offer  a much improved performance in terms of cost and efficiency, not only making endoscopic procedures safer and less invasive than traditional open surgery but also much cheaper.

2 µm Flex M-2000 Series is a perfect laser diode solution for soft tissue surgery in Urology. The laser wavelength is 2 µm, which is absorbed by the ubiquitous water of the tissue molecules. Whereas Holmium:YAG lasers, Flex M-2000 laser module can be operated in continuous wave(CW) allowing a high rate of tissue vaporization.

The laser technology has been used since the 80s for the treatment of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). After several evolutions of laser sources and surgical techniques, today diode laser sources are one of the most advanced technology and high performance tools for laser endoscopic prostatectomy procedures.
